THE DOWNLOW

Mai Christy Thao started out her writing career in grade school winning several essays and writing contests. She then discovered romance books and made the jump to the much more inspiring world of fiction where she incorporates her love of history with strong, sexy characters, steamy romance, and breathtaking, edge-of-your-seat plots. She is a proud member of Romance Writers of America (RWA) and lives in the Carolinas where she'd diligently working on her next novel.

Mai also does freelance writing and teaches web and graphic designing on occasion. She works as a network affiliate marketer for several companies and owns an internet network marketing business. She likes to spend whatever free time she has left over devoted to reading and writing.

WRITING ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The Prophecy, the first book in my series, has placed in several contests including Indiana Romance Writer's Golden Opportunity Contest, FF&P's On the Far Side Contest, FTH's Wallflower Contest, and Smoky Mountain Romance Writers' Laurie Contest. The Prophecy is also presently a semi-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest, hosted by Amazon.com, Penguin Group Publishing, and CreateSpace

Prince of Darkness, the second book, has placed in such contest as FTHRW's Wallflower Contest and Coeur de Louisiane's Romancing the Tome Contest. Prince of Darkness is also the finaling manuscript in the American Title IV Contest, hosted by Romantic Times BOOKreviews Magazine and Dorchester Publishing.

Heart of a Highlander, my scottish paranormal, has just made its first round in the contest circuit and has already placed in Smoky Mountain Romance Writers' Laurie Contest.

In 2006, I landed my first contract for a collaboration with the amazing and extremely talented J. David Crosby at Reel Melodies to write a rock opera. You can find out more about Reel Melodies HERE.

BRAGGING RIGHTS

I'm an American Title IV finalist!!

Prince of Darkness has finaled in this year's American Title IV Contest, a huge deal in the romance writing industry. The contest, hosted by Romantic Times BOOKreviews Magazine and sponsored by Dorchester Publishing, has launched the careers of many talented authors. I'll keep you posted with updates on the contest and when to vote as soon as that information becomes available. Wish me luck and please take the opportunity to vote for me. Every vote counts. I'm also a semi-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest!!

The Prophecy is a semi-finalist in this year's Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest, an international book writing contest sponsored by Amazon.com, Penguin Group Publishing, and CreateSpace. The contest is for all genres of fiction and was capped at 5000 entries. From there, only a little over 800 made it to the semi-finals, 38 of which belonged to the romance category! The entries are now up on Amazon.com for download and review. The ten entries with the most and highest-rated reviews will make it to the finals. You can cast a review from now until March 2nd. Amazon.com semi-finalist!

Last fall, Amazon.com, in conjunction with Penguin Group Publishing and CreateSpace, launched the Amazon Breakthrough Novel (ABNA) Contest. This contest was open to any manuscript not previously published, accepted entries from all the the countries of the world, and was not limited to any one genre of fiction.

Bottom line is that the winner gets a $25,000 advance and a contract from Penguin Group Publishing, and a market-ing team of their own for an entire year!

After months of waiting, I am absolutely thrilled to learn I made it to the semi-finals with my historical fantasy romance, The Prophecy, the first book in my Zenith fantasy series!!

The entries will be posted from now until March 2nd for people to download and review. The ten entries with the most and top reviews will move on to the finals!

Okay, for those unaware what AT IV stands for, it stands for American Title IV.

Every year, Romantic Times BOOKreviews Mag- azine and Dorchester Publishing holds a contest called American Title molded after the reality tv show, American Idol where unpublished au- thors compete for a publishing contract from Dorchester. American Title is to the romance writing world what American Idol is to the music industry.

The theme for this year is paranormal and I'm VERY pleased to announced that Prince of Darkness is one of the ten finalists!!

Voting will commence somehwere around Oct. 15th with the first round and expected to concude on March 3rd with the end of the fifth round. Please, please, take the oppor-tunity to check back then and vote for me!
